I was telling you in the last gallery,
Jen is incredibly fun to be around.
She has a great sense of adventure and
doing things. (As long as it doesn't
drizzle;
rain is okay, but drizzle--forget it.)
On our first date she asked if I liked
to ski. I told her I loved it, but hadn't
been skiing in Colorado in a long time,
not since 1993, but I had been skiing
in early 2000. And
thus the ski vacation was born. The
weather was absolutely beautiful the
first day of skiing. It was so warm
that I had to remove the fleece lining
and skied with my jacket open. Of course
since we were in Breckenridge we had
to mosey on over to Keystone to do a
little night skiing. It was still great.
The second day of skiing was a complete
contrast. It started out clear at the
base, with a bit of snow at the peak.
When we got to the peak however, we
found ourselves in the midddle of a
blizzard with white-out. We were ready
to pack it up and call it a day, but
when we got to the base it was warm
and
sunny again. The peak looked clearer,
so we decided to do another run. Well,
one run went fine, then another got
caught in a blizzard again. Being rather
intelligent, we decided to eat at the
mountain house while the storm blew
over. It was no use, though. It was
just too darned cold to ski much longer,
so we called it an early day, and our
body's thanked us. Still, the skiing
was a blast.
When
we first planned the ski trip, we had
friends who wanted to go, but after
we booked the trip, those friends slowly
backed out. Now Jen and I need a chaperone--well
I guess we
don't need a chaperone but, we
wanted one. So at the last moment, my
mother went with us. It actually turned
out to be a good thing, because it gave
Jen and my mom an opportunity to get
to know each other better. And since
those opportunities don't come
that often and are usually pretty short,
this one was espcially luxurious. Mom
skied with us one day and then on the
last day went shopping and site seeing
with us. As you can see, the day was
absolutely gl orious.
Of course our time in Colorado was fun,
but it convinced us with no shadow of
doubt that Florida is our home. Snow
is only good for two things: pictures
and skiing. And mountains, while pretty
to look at are terrible to live in.
The air is dry turning your skin into
scales and your nose into a gigantic
bloody booger factory. So thank God
for Florida.
