Gospel of Christ
The word Gospel means "good news", and the word Christ
is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word Messiah, which in turn
means "anointed one" (the one God anointed is implied). So Gospel
of Christ means the good news about the anointed one of God. The Gospel
is simply the news that God has chosen not to hold people's faults (sins)
against them, but to forgive them and offer them eternal life in Heaven
with Him.
In a nutshell:
- People are scum. We can't even live up to our own expectations and
standards; how can we live up to God's? Not only that, we have rejected
God. "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has
turned to his own way." Isaiah 53:6
- Since we rejected God and fell short of perfection, we don't deserve
to have his company. "For the wages of sin is death."
Romans 6:23a
- But God loved enough to send his own Son, Jesus Christ, to die in
our place. "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans
5:8
- In order to claim this forgiveness and salvation, one must simply
believe that it is true and receive it. "Yet to all who received
him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God" John 1:12
- But that's not all; in dying for our sins, Jesus also freed us from
our faults and sins. As long as we obey him and walk in his ways,
we can live a life that is satisfying and with purpose. "I
have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:10b
